The brief was to provide a light and airy contemporary extension with lots of glass that is also warm and cosy. The clients required a larger kitchen linked to a sociable living / dining area, together with a new utility room with back door and landscaped garden. What made this project different was the very high spec and attention to sustainability and green issues.
The extension is to be built from Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) and the project incorporates piped underfloor heating supplied from solar-thermal panels and a rainwater harvesting system with underground tank in the garden. The aluminium sliding-folding doors, matching window and contemporary rooflight are also high spec to maximise insulation and therefore minimise heating costs.
